Textile manufacturing in the United States has slowly declined over the past several decades and the textile industry as we know it today will not remain the same. It will evolve into a more technical and interdisciplinary field, requiring a distinct group of highly skilled workers to support it.
Are you ready get these in-demand skills? Do you want to help revolutionize and revitalize the domestic textile industry by transforming traditional fibers into sophisticated networked systems for commercial and defense applications? If you are interested in solving hard problems, working in an innovative, fast-paced environment with a multi-disciplinary team on advanced fiber and fabric technologies and products, consider applying for AFFOAs DoD Skillbridge Internship.
Here’s what Skillbridge looks like at AFFOA:
- 12-16 week internships, in either remote or in-person work from our office in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Opportunities align with our Education and Workforce Development as well as technical project management portfolios.
- Interns are paid by and supported for benefits through the military.
- Possible full-time employment with AFFOA or AFFOA’s Members.

Who Can Apply?
Any member of the armed services who:
- Is currently on Active Duty
- Can obtain command sponsorship
- Interested in a career in the advanced textile industry
What’s the timeline?
You can apply anytime. You can expect 3-4 interviews before an internship offer is considered.
